The Play

This is the sad, delusional and comical story of Cass, a tired and tipsy woman, who, after fifty-two years of romping as a saloon waitress in America, returns home.

Her dreams of living out the rest of her days with her beloved brother and his family don't follow the romantic script, however, as the brother and his family to whom she returns really have no need for her and ship her off to a rest haven for old dreamers. We follow her lonely journey through rejection and eventual surrender to the make-believe survival of Eden House.

The Group

Kiltimagh has had a long tradition of Amateur Dramatics going all the way back to the formation of the Kiltimagh's "Young Mens" Association in 1906. Until the mid-1990's, there were various active drama and musical groups within the community.

Clann Machua Drama Group was formed in 2010 in order to revive this tradition in the Kiltimagh. The Group's first production was in 2011 performing
A Crucial Week in the Life of a Grocer's Assistant by Tom Murphy.

The Group hosts its annual ADCI one-act festival in November each year and for the past number of years have been on the one-act drama circuit.

The Group also embarked on the full-length circuit over the past few years having successfully performed Sean O'Casey's
Juno and the Paycock and The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh.

In 2018 Mayo County Council's Arts Office awarded Clann Machua 'Best Drama Group' in the county's Amateur Drama Awards section.
